We ran a long read about Andrew Tarlow’s defining role in the Brooklyn food scene back in 2013, and since then he’s opened She Wolf Bakery, already a Greenmarket favorite for its responsible sourcing and high quality bread. This guy clearly deserves an award. Slow Food NYC agrees.

They’re knighting him as a “Snailblazer,” the award they dish out sans escargot once annually. He’ll be joining Manhattan-based luminaries Mary Cleaver, Bill Telepan and Peter Hoffman in the Slow Food hall of fame. The Snailblazer award is given to leaders in the farm-to-table movement that show commitment to a local, sustainable and fair food system, and Tarlow certainly embodies this spirit: His collection of restaurants and storefronts supply Brooklynites with sustainable meats, locally sourced grain, and a wide variety of hyperseasonal specialty ingredients.

Join Slow Food NYC at their annual (S)low Down, a benefit in support of their Urban Harvest in the Schools program. They’ll be presenting Tarlow with his award at the shindig in his very own Wythe Hotel. They’re also hosting a bluegrass band, and tickets include a selection of dishes from Reynard alongside local spirits, wine and beer including Doc’s Draft Hard Cider, Port Morris Distilling, Van Brunt Stillhouse and New York Distilling Company. The (s)low down happens next Wednesday, September 9, at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available here.
