We’re Hosting a Pop-Up Dinner at Industry City with a James Beard Semi-Finalist

One bite into local chef Alex Raij’s moist olive oil cake with creamy maple ice cream and brandied kumquats and you’ll swear you’re sitting in a cafe in Bilbao.

Raij—the author of The Basque Book: A Love Story in Recipes from the Kitchen of Txikito and one-half of the wife-and-husband team behind Txikito, one of New York’s most authentic Basque restaurants, El Quinto Pino, named the “Absolute Best Tapas in New York” by New York Magazine, and the Michelin-starred La Vara—has the cure for any wanderlust you have. And, lucky us, she’ll be popping up at our Industry City Chef’s Lab on April 14, taking diners on a culinary journey through Spain.

The evening will start at 5 p.m. with a pre-dinner sherry-infused cocktail hour with assorted tapas followed by a six-course dinner that includes remojòn (salt cod, citrus, olive, pistachio), berenjena con miel (crispy eggplant, honey, nigella seed, barberry and labne) and cordero al ajo cabañil (lamb butcher steak, garlic vinaigrette, preserved lemon and an herb salad).

This is the second dinner in the Industry City Chef’s Lab series curated by Edible Brooklyn. In January, Bonbite chef Winston Chiu treated guests to a sold-out five-course menu of what he called “Chinese pub food.” Each dinner celebrates a local chef and includes a cocktail hour, multi-course dinner and wine pairing.

Raij has distinguished herself by creating memorable dishes that uniquely capture a sense of place without giving up a sense of personal intimacy. Along with her husband, Eder Montero, Raij is a multiple-time semi-finalist for the James Beard Foundation’s “Best Chef New York City” award. Her food is delicious, inimitable and authentic on all levels. Taste it for yourself on April 14 at Industry City, but make sure to grab your all inclusive, $89 tickets soon as space is limited at the pop-up series.

Can’t make it this April? Stay tuned to our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter as we announce future pop-ups in the series. It’s going to be a perfect evening to round out a day of browsing the Brooklyn Flea!
