Finlandia Vodka Journeys to the Source in Their New Documentary Series

Imagine a world without clean water. The beaches you love—from Coney Island to Montauk — would be toxic. All of your favorite treats — from bagels to cocktails — would be dangerous to consume, irrevocably tainted. This is not the plot of a fantastic dystopian thriller; for billions of people across the globe, it’s a reality here and now.

This is just one reason why Edible Brooklyn is proud to partner with Finlandia Vodka as they work to promote clean water — a topic near and dear to our hearts. We here at Edible like to bring you water-related stories every chance we get — about everything from the Shinnecock Bay Restoration Program’s efforts on the East End, to the quality of the tap water in Manhattan. We are happy to work with Finlandia to bring you more of these important stories as the months progress.

Finlandia Vodka prides itself on being “absent all but the necessary.” Their list of ingredients is simple: pure glacial spring water and 6-row barley. It is no wonder, then, that Finlandia Vodka is renowned for tasting so clean.

It is this — their brand’s devotion to purity — that has inspired their new Journey from the Source video series.

The multi-episode series features a roster of world-class adventurers and seeks to raise awareness of the importance of preserving the world’s pure water sources. Journey from the Source will travel from Finland to America and chronicle pure water advocates who not only share Finlandia’s passion for water conservation, but also have an unexpected relationship with the planet’s rivers, waves, and mountains.

The series — a four-part documentary — is hosted by Cory Richards, the award-winning explorer and National Geographic documentarian best known for becoming the first American to summit an 8,000-meter peak in winter. It is also a fitting act of activism for Finlandia, which already donates 1% of its US sales to pure water initiatives through its partnership with 1% For The Planet.

Finlandia will release an episode of Journey from the Source each month, from now until March’s World Water Day.

The first episode of Finlandia’s Journey from the Source series is up and ready-to-watch here. To make sure you don’t miss any upcoming episodes, you can subscribe to Finlandia’s YouTube channel, or stay tuned right here on Edible.

According to the World Health Organization, at least 1.8 billion people rely on contaminated drinking water each year. By 2025, they estimate that half of the world’s population will be living in water-stressed areas. Without intervention, the world’s water situation will not only never get better; it will actively grow worse each year.

And so we are especially proud to be partnering now with Finlandia, and to be journeying from the source with them — and you — into the new year.
