Armed with note pads, questions and a dream, an audience of entrepreneurs (and just interested Edible readers) descended on the Brooklyn Brewery earlier this month for our most recent event: “How to Build a Business in the Food World.”
A panel of experts shared their stories, offered tips and gave fantastic advice for breaking into the highly competitive market of food production.
Elizabeth Valleau of Empire Mayonnaise cautioned our audience that “Getting traction does not always equal success.” Later, Alex Lorton of Cater2Me.com stressed the importance of learning how to sell yourself when getting started. Dan Marotta, a trademark and licensing attorney, delivered the nitty gritty aof protecting your brand from legal standpoint. And finally, Chrissy Michaels from Fare Trade NYC offered the optimistic message that passion and a good product can lead to success against the big guys.
