TOC! BLACK LEOPARD, RED WOLF with Riverhead Table and Food Book Fair

Event Navigation

From our organizers:

We are THRILLED to announce our first Tables of Contents dinner of 2019, an epic collaboration with our friends and co-conspirators at Riverhead Table and Food Book Fair hosted at Egg Restaurant.

For one night only, chef Evan Hanczor and author Marlon James will collaborate to present a multi-course experience inspired by Marlon’s blockbuster new novel BLACK LEOPARD, RED WOLF.

A stunning first installment in Marlon’s emerging Dark Star Trilogy, BLACK LEOPARD, RED WOLF has drawn comparisons to the world-creating of Tolkien and dubbed an “African Game of Thrones”. It is a sprawling, sensual, disorienting, and thrilling journey of a read, and it’s going to make quite a meal.

We’re keeping a lid on the menu til the night of the meal, but you can expect to dip into 8 courses (!!!) inspired by the book’s lush scenes, such as

raw and charred goat

ugali porridge

sorghum bread

textures and shades of green

dates and nuts

and more.

Tickets are $125/pp (+ tax, service included), and include all food and drink for the evening, plus a special edition enamel pin produced by Riverhead. Evan and Marlon will lead a discussion and Q&A at the end of the meal, and there are bound to be a handful of surprises to come. We have amazing beverage pairings from Forthave SpiritsForge Cellars, and Brooklyn Brewery, and memorable takeaways including custom BLRW enamel pins and candles with a custom-created BLRW scent made by Hi Wildflower. It’s a damn steal!

As usual, our neighbors McNally Jackson will be in the house selling signed copies of the book and Marlon’s other titles (including the Man Booker Prize-winning A BRIEF HISTORY OF SEVEN KILLINGS).

AAAAAND, $10 from every ticket will go to support One Moore Book, author (and TOC alum!) Wayétu Moore’s nonprofit that publishes culturally sensitive and educational stories for children of countries with low literacy rates and underrepresented cultures.

Squarespace and Food Book Fair have created an event-specific site to keep up with and dig into the TOC events this month. Check it out here! www.tablesofcontentsdinner.com

Huge thanks to Riverhead, Food Book Fair, Squarespace, The Brooklyn Brewery, Forthave, and Forge for their support of this meal!
