The Masters of Social Gastronomy Present: Beer at Kings County Distillery

Event Navigation

From our organizers:

Beer! If there’s a culinary crossroads of history and science, beer’s just about it.

Sarah will be looking at the history of beer through the lens of what it has given humanity, other than a nasty hangover. This includes guilty pleasures like soda pop and power hours, alongside the twin villains of the past and present, witches and straws.

As a True American, Soma is statutorily bound to explain what makes an IPA the perfect encapsulation of Manifest Destiny, and how hops (and the chemicals hiding inside!) conquered the world. Not content to stick to the plant kingdom, he’ll also dive down into the yeasts and bacteria that help turn a pile of grain into a successful night out.

We’ll also be welcoming special guest Otis Gray of the Hungry Podcast to share the history of malt liquor in the USA.

This talk will be held at Kings County Distillery, located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard at the 299 Sands Street entrance. Entrance details will be provided the day before the event. 21+ only. This event will be a mix of seating and standing room. Doors will open at 6:30, with talks beginning around 7pm.
