Chow: Making the Chinese American Restaurant

Event Navigation

From our organizers:

Chow: Making the Chinese American Restaurant celebrates the birth and evolution of Chinese American cuisine, tracing its 170-year history and sparking conversation about food culture, immigration, and what it means to be American.

• Menu Timeline: View a stunning collection of over 100 menus from 1910 to 2016. See how the cuisine evolved as immigration laws changed.

• Project Fortune: Contribute your own message of goodwill to Project Fortune (projectfortune.mofad.org) and a stranger could receive your words of wisdom. Think: message in a bottle, with a cookie as the medium. Admire our 1,500-pound fortune cookie machine, and sample packaged cookies from local manufacturer Wonton Foods, Inc.

• Chow Culinary Studio: Enjoy a chef-designed tasting that highlights Chinese American culinary techniques. Each month, Chow will feature a different recipe.

• Lab’s Lab: On select Sundays, 2-3PM, join us for Lab’s Lab, a workshop series showcasing the experiments and research taking place in the MOFAD Lab’s kitchen. Included in the price of regular Museum admission.

September tasting: Xiang Xi Fried Rice, Chef Zilong Zhao (MáLà Project)
