From our organizers:
Hello! Join the Square Roots Resident Entrepreneurs for an Urban Farming Workshop & Private Farm Tour on our Brooklyn farming campus.
Get to know the ins-and-outs of the various Square Roots farming methods, step into our controlled-climate, hydroponic farms, get hands-on with seeding and harvesting, and get to know your local farmer and the fresh, tasty greens they’re growing year-round, right in the heart of New York.
What to Expect
The event kicks off with a brief presentation on local urban ag, our farming techniques, and an introduction to your season 2 Resident Entrepreneurs. Next, you’ll step into the farms for a close-up look at their unique varieties of greens, as well as the technology of indoor vertical agriculture.
Throughout the event, you’ll be given a brief demonstration on both seeding and harvesting before you try your hand at it yourself. You’ll be welcome to eat your freshly-harvested greens right there or bring it home to share with others.
Throughout the hour and a half workshop, you’ll gain an understanding of indoor farming, hydroponically-grown greens, and the day-to-day experiences of local urban farmers. Bring all your growing, hydroponic, and urban agriculture questions!
Guests of all ages are welcome to attend, but children must be accompanied by an adult. Please remember to wear closed toed shoes. Hairnets or hats, gloves, and shoe covers will be provided.
How to find us: Entrance to the building is on Tompkins Avenue. When you get here, aim for the main lobby of the building (it has a blue awning) and head up to the 3rd floor. From there, take a right and follow the signs for Square Roots.
