From our organizers:
The Billion Oyster Project, in partnership with the Gowanus Dredgers canoe club and Sunset Spark, a local educational nonprofit, is offering a small-scale community rowing and paddling program in Sunset Park, Brooklyn this summer. Among the goals of the program: to provide access to the water for the neighborhood residents and to assess the possibility of establishing a permanent community boathouse.
The site is outer lagoon at Bush Terminal Park, at the end of 43rd Street, a protected space ideal for entry-level boaters. The fleet of watercraft available for free public use will include wooden dories, one of them built this spring by middle school students from the neighborhood, plus canoes and kayaks.
There will be free public boating sessions:
Saturday August 4, 2-6pm
Thursday August 9, 3-7pm
Thursday August 23, 3-7pm
