A Brick Lane Bangladeshi Dinner with author Dina Begum

Event Navigation

From our organizers:

Join us for a dinner of bold Bangladeshi flavors with London’s Dina Begum who’s cooking up a three-course meal to celebrate her new BRICK LANE COOKBOOK and Bangladeshi heritage. She writes:

“The diverse food culture of Brick Lane has become even more tantalising over the past few years and it’s easily one of the best markets in London. Famed for the largest concentration of curry houses, this foodie hub not only houses a permanent, winding street full of restaurants and eateries, but it’s also at the cutting edge of street food. From Shoreditch to Whitechapel, you’ll find well over 200 food stalls over the weekend, offering practically everything your heart desires.”

On the MENU:

CHOTPOTI – classic Bangladeshi snack of potato + chickpeas in a spicy tamarind sauce. Topped with onions, tomato, cucumber, grated eggs + crispy pastry

BIYE BARIR ROAST – translated as ‘wedding feast roast chicken,’ this dish is based on my mother’s recipe. Pan-fried chicken pieces are slow cooked in a rich gravy of caramelized onions, green chillies + spices

VEGETABLE NIRAMISHA – seasonal vegetables cooked with turmeric, cumin + Bangla five spice

SHADA PULAO – basmati rice cooked with ghee, aromatic spices, ginger + onions

BANGLA SALAD – red onions, cucumber, tomatoes + coriander

GAJORER PAYESH – carrot rice pudding enriched with milk, ghee + warming spices such as cinnamon + cardamom, finished with chopped nuts + raisins
