No, silly, there’s no salmon lurking in the waters near Red Hook. But rather a local named Christopher Nicolson who travels to Alaska to fish with his family each summer, as he’s been doing for decades. Most of the year Nicolson is an assistant winemaker at the Red Hook Winery in Brooklyn, but in a few weeks he’ll be a sockeye fisherman, and we can enjoy the fruits (of the sea) of his labors: His family’s Iliamna Fish Company product is sold here and Portland, Ore. through CSA shares.
Each$198 share is 12 lbs of wild sockeye caught by hand in small, 20-foot-long boats and delivered as vacuum-sealed and flash frozen, hand-cut fillets. You pay a 50% deposit now and the rest when you pick up.
