On a quiet corner in Bushwick, something truly remarkable is happening. In a large, airy storefront, sleekly designed and eminently handsome, Supercrown Coffee is roasting some of the finest beans you can find in the city. It’s no surprise—owner Darleen Scherer boasts an impressive résumé. She started Gorilla Coffee in 2002, one of Brooklyn’s first third-wave coffee roasters, and has served as executive council member on the Roasters Guild.

In the café itself, you can try a variety of drip coffee and espresso drinks, utilizing whatever beans are showcased that week. There are some unique specialty items, too, like the incredibly refreshing Laura Palmer, a mash-up of lemonade and Japanese-style iced coffee. The coffee milkshakes (made with Ample Hills Sweet Cream) are also incredible, as are the “magic bialys”—egg, prosciutto and caramelized onions, baked at nearby Roberta’s.

For coffee brewed in your own kitchen, Supercrown offers a weekly subscription service, where every week presents a new variety of beans from around the world. Each shipment comes not just with an 8.8-ounce box of delicious coffee but with cool photo cards featuring detailed info on the growers who produced your beans. Sign up on their website—you’ll be glad you did.
