Doing your holiday shopping in New York means every day is a chance to support small businesses, especially the growing number of food makers that make their home here. And there is no better place to find these edible crafts-folk than at the myriad holiday markets open all month.

The monthly Vegan Shop-Up adds a special pop-up on December 16, with its holiday edition of vendors ranging from Gone Pies and Screamers Pizza to Monk’s Meats sandwiches and Sweet Maresa’s rainbow cookies, all at Bushwick’s Pine Box Rock Shop.

On December 6, 13 and 17, Ditmas Park’s Sycamore Bar will also be hosting The Makers Market, mixing local artisans and tarot readings with spirits.

The Greenpointers Holiday Market returns on December 11 from 1 to 7 p.m. to their fifth floor loft space at 67 West Street. This year’s line-up includes a photo booth and artisanal doughnuts and chocolate amongst the 50-plus vendors.

Shwick’s Food Porn Fest on December 16 and 17 will bring vendors to 395 Johnson Avenue.

Finally, the Brooklyn Flea also returns to One Skylight Hanson with the Winter Market, featuring 23 Smorgasburg food vendors and 75 retail vendors within three floors, every weekend through January 8, except Christmas and New Year’s Eves and Days.

In Manhattan, the annual mainstays Union Square Holiday Market, Bryant Park Holiday Market and Columbus Circle Holiday Market are back with their customary mix of local sweets, soups, beer mixes, and more treats interspersed between bespoke picture frames, hand puppets, jewelry, and art. Most of the food stands are clustered in the deeper end of the market, and include Raclette’s scraped melted Alpine cheese in bratwurst or hot dog sandwiches, fresh churros, rice bowls and Taste of Persia’s daily soups.

But don’t let these keep you from other stand-outs.

The Grand Holiday Bazaar is open every Sunday through Christmas Eve, with over 160 merchants showcasing one-of-a-kind designs, jams, chocolate, distillers and more to the Upper West Side at 100 West 77th Street—with 100 percent of profits going to four local public schools.

A unique addition to this year’s shopping lineup is the Lightfoot Market Holiday Pop-Up in Chelsea, open December 9 and 10. With a zero-waste, eco-friendly, cruelty-free, conscious consumer focus, this market features 65 vendors, such as Ajiri Tea, Eat Chic Chocolates, Eat Cultured and Full Moon Ghee.

The festivities extend underground, too. Don’t miss the inaugural Turnstyle Holiday Market located within the subway corridor in the Columbus Circle station. The restaurants and shops offer everything from Hell’s Kitchen Hot Sauce and 787 Coffee to Nutbox, Gastronome and Blossom DuJour. Events and promotions range from Thursday good deeds to an ongoing food pantry collection.
