Fort Greene’s Colonia Verde Will Make Its Comeback Next Tuesday

Back in February, a circuit fire closed Fort Greene restaurant Colonia Verde, the new Latin American restaurant that has already received a James Beard nod for design. Though the restaurant had been open for less than a year, community members rallied in support of the restaurant from the team behind Cómodo. Owners Felipe Donelly, Tamy Rofe and Carolina Santos-Neves have spent the last four months rebuilding the space and next Tuesday, June 23 they’ll reopen with a new menu, a revamped cocktail program and a backyard garden.

The revamped patio is every Brooklynite’s aspiration. One of my friends described it as the ideal spot for a hinge date (a third or fourth date that plays a role in defining the nature of the relationship) and the twinkly tea lights amidst the leafy green trees might be enough to tip the scales in your favor. If not, you can always fall back on the thoughtful bar snacks menu (botanas) and enjoy the melt-in-your-mouth yuca caramañolas stuffed with creamy rajas.

We had the chance to try a few of their new cocktails and botanas. We recommend the vegetarian eggplant fundido with melted manchego and the grilled baby spare ribs. We’re also huge fans of the La Principita cocktail, a refreshing concoction of grapefruit juice, mezcal, Aperol and sweet vermouth. New to the restaurant? The chefs recommend pairing their Picosa cocktail with aguachile tostadas or a glass of Celestina Sparkling Malbec with the duck confit tacos.
