Want to support a worthy non-profit and sample new local spirits at the same time? Come to Good Spirits Brooklyn at The Invisible Dog Gallery in Boerum Hill on January 22!

Inspired by Good Spirits Manhattan, one of our most popular annual pairing events, a portion of the proceeds from the Brooklyn event will go to the New York State Distillers Guild. The guild supports distilleries by working in Albany to pass laws that pave the way for success for the state’s burgeoning craft spirits movement. A recent success? Last month the New York Craft Act went into effect, allowing distilleries to sell their spirits by the glass. The guild also helps connect distilleries with local grain growers and malt houses.

Partially underwritten by TasteNY, Good Spirits Brooklyn will showcase many of the guild’s 48 members. “Not only is it a fundraiser, but it also supports the guild as an excellent marketing and promotional tool for the concept of New York craft spirits as a whole and helps elevate the perception of New York spirits,” Nicole Austin, president of the guild, told Edible.

We couldn’t resist asking her which distilleries to watch in the new year. She mentioned Astoria Distilling and Black Button Distilling as interesting new kids on the block, and she acknowledged Black Dirt Distillery as the most mature of the bunch. Noble Experiment is one of the only state distilleries focusing on rum. They’ll all be available for sampling at Good Spirits Brooklyn this year — buy your tickets, see the full restaurant lineup and stay tuned for more details here.
