Brewer Greg Doroski to Join 333 Douglass Street

Farewell, toxicity! The Gowanus Canal now flows with beer!

Okay. The Gowanus Canal is not flowing with beer—unfortunately. An infiltration of beer into Gowanus has recently occurred, however, and more is coming.

We featured Grimm Artisanal Ales, a pair of Gowanus-based gypsy brewers, in our current issue. We also covered the arrival of Whole Foods in Gowanus, the first in Brooklyn, which even fostered a new beer from Evil Twin Brewing. Now, a new brewpub at 333 Douglass Street is slated to open in 2014. The owners, including Justin Israelson of Sycamore Bar & Flowershop, have also revealed its brewmaster: Greg Doroski, presently a brewer at Greenport Harbor Brewing Co.

Eater and DNAinfo initially scooped 333 Douglass Street, which is still unnamed, in 2013. Both stated a 10-barrel brewery, but Doroski has confirmed “a 15-barrel brewery with a mix of serving tanks, a state-of-the-art draft system, and a small bottle program that will provide us with the flexibility to offer beers that range from the experimental to the approachable. You should expect to see beers that are spontaneously inoculated right alongside accessible table beers and lagers.”

Doroski, a native of Mattituck, started with Greenport Harbor in 2010. He previously lived in Brooklyn for seven years, and “actually did all my homebrewing from my tiny apartment in Bay Ridge.” He envisions 333 Douglass Street as a “gathering place, with the space as the heart of our programs. We hope it will serve as a center to our local community.”
